Have you heard the one about the Dublin born Neil Diamond impersonator who recreated the Los Angeles Greek Theatre in Darling Harbour , then performed the entire Hot August Night concert backed by a forty piece symphony orchestra ?

No ? Meet Peter Byrne, a professional Diamond double for years. Peter decided back in 1997 to celebrate the 25 th Anniversary of the 1972 live double album by performing every song reportedly bought by one in four people in the western hemisphere.

His solution was to recreate the theatre by performing the concert at Sydney's Darling Harbour Convention Centre in front of 4,000. Peter slipped into the sequins outfits and performed classics such as Cracklyn Rosie, Sweet Caroline and I am I said.

Diamond never recorded this epic concert on video so Peter's idea was to give everyone a live sense of what it would have been like to have been there and a twenty two piece string section, 9 brass and 9 rhythm would do it.

Since then the show has continued its anniversary date every August and Peter has had the honour of recreating the show at Sydney State Theatre, Burswood Casino in Perth , Twin Towns on the Gold Coast and Adelaide 's festival theatre.
